Parts: What are Parts Lists and where do I get them ?

Parts lists are NOT available from NZ Nissan. You may even have trouble in just getting a part number from them. There are two sources of parts lists. One is the original microfiche and the other are CD's made up from images scanned from the microfiche. Available from the US. Not only do you get to find the part number but often get a feel for how the parts come off. Prices range from about $20 NZ to USD 40 for the CD depending on what you want. You may still be able to purchase the microfiche sets but you will need a fiche viewer. The parts list have an IPB with them (Illustrated Parts Breakdown) attached.

Where can I get parts ?

The first source of parts are the local Nissan agents but you soon learn what lack of competition means. A second source is the wreckers. Useful 300zx parts don't last long. You can purchase from club members who often have parts cars. Or last you can import your own from the US. There are several mail order Nissan agents there with parts lists and IPB's. Depending on weight you will typically save up to 50% off NZ prices. And if the overall cost is less than NZD700 (including the freight) then no GST either. Takes about 10-12 days which is about the same time it takes NZ Nissan agents to order parts in from Japan. Freight from the US ranges from about USD 20 to 70 depending on weight.

There are also a lot of parts available from non Nissan suppliers in NZ. Some parts are used on other vehicles in Nissans range and the number of these sold makes it worth while to source these. I found that it was cheaper to buy the complete engine set of gaskets locally than to import them. I might add a New Zealand source for parts and services later. A non-inclusive list follows : Gaskets sets, hydraulic lifters, most cambelt pulleys, spark plugs, gearbox parts and overhauls, brake pads and rotors, water pumps, belts, hosing, and there are others.

Any trim parts are better to acquire from the US and some of them aren't cheap. I have printed out my own copy of the parts list but note that it is about 1500 pages. And I personally think it is the only way to bother if you want to do very much parts chasing. Here are two US sites worth looking at : www.courtesynissan.com www.nissanautoparts.com
